With new tax laws the list of what you need to bring is larger:
- Your checking account routing number and account number. NO MORE PAPER IRS CHECKS.
- Last year’s tax return whether done by us or someone else
- Identification documents, with at least one showing your complete Social Security number
- All income documents such as W-2’s, all 1099’s
- Bank and other financial management documents
- Charitable donation receipts
- Any other documents to support Schedule C (small business) or itemized deductions
- If you want to claim the new “No Tax on Car Interest” deduction, bring the following:
- the vehicles 17-digit VIN number (IRS requirement)
- document showing the vehicle final assembly was in the US. You can get this using your VIN at https://vpic.nhtsa.dot.gov/decoder/
- documents showing when the loan was originated (must be in 2025) and the total loan interest (not payments) paid in 2025
- If you want to claim “No Tax of Tips” bring the following:
- If employed, your W-2 showing tips in box 7 and/or box 8
- any forms 4070 you turned into your employer
- If you are self-employed, you can only claim the tip deduction if you receive a 1099-K and you have a tip logbook showing the date, customer, and tip amount received.
- If you want to claim the “No Tax of Overtime” bring the following:
- proof that you are “non-exempt” under the Fair Labor Standards Act (your employer can tell you)
- Your end-of-year 2025 pay statement/stub showing overtime paid
